Devotional Belching

One day we decided to take the Maokong gondola to some shrines and tea houses. It left the MRT (mass transit) station south of Taipei and zoomed on up the mountains. It has four stops, for a couple bucks. That's Jenn posing next to our gondola car.

Just kidding. We sat in a bigger one, with Dave and Yvonne opposite us.

First stop was a Taoist temple - specifically the Chi Nan Temple.

See that worshipper with her hands above her head? She was burping. *burp* *burp* *burp* *burp* ... for several minutes... the kind of burping that leads to puking. Meantime, her kids were running around and wrestling. Establishing Harmony indeed. But she did have melody.

Jenn at a tea-table. Hm. I'd be a little intimidated to get tea here.

We walked a little ways and came to the Linxiao Chapel - these are the front steps. It is set in an absolutely gorgeous hillside above a river, across which is Taipei.

Another shot of the Chi Nan temple.

Finally ... at the tea house .. we had locally grown tea, fried rice, really freakin gross mystery popsicles with mold on them, and this "barley drink". We got that when we asked for cold tea, as it was about 90F outside.    The oolong tea was forgettable, but this barley drink was awesome! Served chilled, it was mildly sweet with a soft roasted chocolate barley flavor. I tried to find it in other places to no avail.
